Registration Policies
Where to find help
If you have questions about pre-registering for classes, try the following:
Waiting lists
The Department of Communication Studies enforces priority registration for several courses. If you look at the Schedule Book, those classes that have the words "priority for declared majors/minors" are restricted during pre-registration to fully declared majors and minors. If you are not a fully declared major or minor you should put your name on the waiting list when prompted by the computer.
Please understand that the only purpose for the Department to have waiting lists is to be fair to all students during the registration process. Faculty and staff spend a great deal of time managing the waiting lists to ensure that the established criteria and procedures are followed.
Determining who gets into classes from waiting lists
Waiting lists will be maintained; students will be let into classes with open seats based upon major/minor status. For example, you might be able to declare your major/minor after grades are turned in. If this is the case, you should fill out a Declaration of Curriculum form and leave it in the Department Office.
If you have met the requirements you need to declare your major/minor, you will be declared and will be moved off waiting lists and
approved to enroll in classes if seats are available. Once all declared majors/minors have had the chance to move into classes from the waiting lists, remaining seats will be assigned to pre-majors based on their
GPA (2.7 or above) and the number of hours they have completed (for example, an undeclared major with 60 hours has priority over one with 58 hours). Following this, if seats remain they will be assigned to those students who are not pre-majors or interested in minoring in a program in the department.
Leave your contact information
It is important that you complete the Declaration of Curriculum form in its
entirety so that the main office has your contact information since each student
will be informed of their enrollment status after their declaration.
